Totara Music
Well, hello there! And welcome to the website of Totara, a Los Angeles based band made up of four ridiculously talented, dedicated, and good-looking individuals. They play a style of rock that is all their own; infused with jazz, classical, latin, electronic, blues... you get the picture. It is music that is different but so familiar, contemplative yet simple, turbulent and mellow. Above all, Totara's style can be described as theatrical, the words telling stories, the music rooted in emotions. Sit back and have a listen... Enjoy the website, enjoy the music, enjoy life. Peace!
Members
Leanne Kelly (Piano, Vocals)
Los Angeles. 1984. As all eyes looked toward the city of angels, champions gathered for the Summer Olympics, and out of this inferno of passion Leanne came screaming into the world. After studying classical piano since childhood, she began writing music in elementary school, and played the sax throughout her teens. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Leanne spent her time writing and performing her original music while in school, honing her technical skills while constantly expanding on her writing. Keyboardist, vocalist, and songwriter, Leanne hopes the music of Totara will have a positive influence on those that use its power wisely.
Adam Keller (Guitar)
After Adam was led to believe he was the reincarnate of Elvis at the tender age of four, he has forever since been rocking a snarly lip and perfecting his talents as a hip-shaking, three-chord playing, sexual icon. No, but really... From his humble upbringing on the Great Plains of Oklahoma, Adam has wandered this world by plane, automobile, foot and metaphysical conscious and semiconscious endeavor. Adam channels his experience through six strings of steel like a spiritual H-Bomb with a sonic fury matched by few of his contemporaries. His unique style stems from a deep appreciation of rock, classical, reggae, bluegrass, blues, jazz, flamenco, bossa... you get the picture. He began his higher education at Oklahoma City University as a classical guitar major, with an emphasis in jazz improvisation, and eventually made his way out to sunny Southern California to study Music Industry at U.S.C. But no amount of schooling could have provided his inherently powerful stage presence. He feels that the music of Totara provides the freedom to voyage beyond the boundaries of musical expression.
Jacob Frautschi (Drums)
Jake started playing piano at age 5 and soon grew tired of classical music. Ok, so I skipped a few years somewhere in that sentence... Anyway, Jake was, unfortunately, unaware of the potential in Jazz piano at the time. So, instead of redirecting his studies, he began playing snare drum in his middle-school band. Jake quickly mastered the art of the quarter note and decided to move on to bigger, better things. Lucky for Jake, he lived in the attic; so, he started playing the drum set in the summer of 1995, much to the dismay of his neighbors. After studying and playing a lot in middle school and high school, Jake became lazy in college. But, he kept his ears open and listened to more music than a college student should. In fact, some say Jake acquired most of his distinct style and solid rhythmic sense by osmosis. He also experimented with songwriting and electronic music production. At any rate, after being away from the band scene for way too long, he is thoroughly enjoying this new adventure as the drummer for Totara.
Noah Garabedian (Bass)
Noah sounds like 18th century warfare meets two frogs making love.
